If you’re using a 6V dc motor in your Lima or Hornby ringfield motor conversion, and you’re using DC control or DCC without CV5 functionality, you’ll need to consider a diode voltage dropper to protect the motor from over-voltage and current.
Our diode voltage dropper through-hole components kit includes all of the core components – four surface mount diodes and heat shrink tubing – saving you preparation time and hassle.
All you have to do is twist the legs of two diodes (arranged in opposing polarity) together and solder the joints, cover in heat shrink to insulate and then solder it inline with the wires to the motor/from the pickups or decoder.

I’ve bought a few of Strath’s conversion kits now and absolutely love them. They make ringfield conversion easy, but I did have to buy my own diodes separately. I inboxed with David and asked if he could sell diodes alongside the adaptors to help those of us less electronically-minded and low and behold here they are! I’ve bought one for my next Lima motor replacement and it’s great and it saves hassle identifying the right diodes. Would buy again 🙂
