8-Pin to 21-Pin Decoder Adaptor (DCC NEM652 8-Pin Socket to 21 Pin MTC Socket)

A brand new 8-pin to 21-pin adaptor, allowing you to use an 8-pin decoder (including DCC sound) in a locomotive with a 21-pin male header plug.

The adaptor is compatible with all common brands of decoder, including ESU (LokPilot and LokSound), Zimo, Gaugemaster, Digitrax, Hornby, Bachmann and LaisDcc.

Aux 1 & 2 Wiring

Unlike a 21-pin decoder, an 8-pin decoder only has one single auxiliary channel in addition to directional lighting. It is controlled via the green wire/pin 3.

When you use an adaptor to use an 8-pin decoder in a socket designed for a 21-pin decoder, you have to decide which function on the locomotive the green wire/pin 3 should control.

This particular adaptor enables you to choose between Aux 1 and Aux 2. For most situations, Aux 1 will be most appropriate and you should form a solder bridge across the two pads as shown in the diagram below.

If you’d prefer to operate Aux 2 via the green wire/pin 3, simply solder a small piece of wire between the Aux 2 pad and the pad to the right of the Aux 1 pad (as per the dotted green line in the diagram below).

Note: Do not bridge both sets of pads at the same time, as this may lead to shorts or overload the decoder.

DCC sound use

If used with an 8-pin DCC sound decoder, the speaker(s) should be soldered to the wires emanating from the decoder or to speaker pads provided on the decoder. Please refer to and follow the decoder manufacturer’s instructions.
